Corso gratuito: “Il Computer: un po’ di teoria e tanta pratica”
The ABNUT Associazione Amici della Biblioteca Nazionale, as part of the project “Già che ci siamo…” co-financed by the Piedmont Region, which offers a series of free and open meetings to the public every Monday afternoon, is promoting a series of courses dedicated to computer usage. The meetings will take place at the auditorium of the National Library, Piazza Carlo Alberto 3 – Turin, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM.
The course, held by the expert Dr. Giovanni Vagnone di Trofarello and Celle, CEO of Retro Consulting Group, will begin on Monday, April 15, and run until Monday, May 13, 2024.
CALENDARIO DEL CORSO: “IL COMPUTER: UN PO’ DI TEORIA E TANTA PRATICA”
15 April 2024 14.30 – 16.00 Lesson 1 (theoretical): “Introduction, starting from the basics – Cloud, artificial intelligence, and related risks. The computer as a “window”. General introduction to online storage (cloud) and free cloud tools available. More and more applications like SaaS, along with advancements in translation (Deepl) and search (Google). Artificial intelligence (ChatGPT and Photoshop Beta) and what it can do.
2 April 2024 14.30 – 16.00 Lecture 2 (theoretical-practical): “The Main Social Media for Entertainment: Enjoying and Creating Content in a World of Algorithms Where We Are the Product.” The risks of social media presence and the ‘entertainment’ aspects of major platforms, particularly Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Digital ‘footprints,’ behavioral guidelines (netiquette), and a brief look at future scenarios (augmented reality, virtual reality, metaverse).
29 April 2024 14.30 – 16.00 Lesson 3 (Practical): “Google Suite – Part 1: Drive, Docs, and Sheets.”
An overview of the features of Google Drive: from Gmail to storage, syncing (backup) with your phone, and the main software tools that free of charge and collaboratively replace the Office suite. We’ll start with Docs (Word) and Sheets (Excel): managing text formatting, fonts, styles, and basic Excel-like spreadsheets (essential formulas).
6 May 2024 14.30 – 16.00 Lesson 4 (Practical): “Google Suite – Part 2: Slides and Forms.”
An overview of layout design (e.g., flyers, publications, presentations, calendars, etc.) using Google Slides, and creating surveys or questionnaires with Google Forms. A look at more professional or paid alternatives to Google Drive (such as Dropbox, Microsoft Office 365, etc.).
13 May 2024 14.30 – 16.00 Lesson 5 (Theoretical-Practical): “Online Marketing: SEO, Cookies, Algorithms, and Browsing. How to Protect Yourself from Major Threats.”
Managing passwords, how to evaluate if a website is trustworthy, and how to avoid online scams. Tips on how to stay securely connected in a world where passwords can be cracked in seconds. Legal context (GDPR, Shield, etc.) and the reality of the situation.
The Association: ABNUT is an association that promotes all initiatives related to the enhancement, knowledge, and functioning of the National University Library of Turin.
